P.S. Quick progress update: We have transcribed all interviews and are now working on b-roll images. We’ll start the first rough cut in the next month or so.

I can’t believe that it has been almost two months since our shoot in May! We had a great week in Missoula and I think we are done with 95% of the shooting. Since May, we’ve been transcribing all the interviews, which takes a looong time. We’ve had a few hard-working interns doing a few hours at a time. Next step is to focus on a few grant applications to raise funds to keep the momentum going. Once all the transcripts are done, we can start editing and creating the first rough cut. This is the challenge of finding the right film in the 50+ hours of footage. I had originally hoped to edit a rough cut by this fall, but now I think it’s more realistic to give myself more time to not rush this important step. We’ll see…

The film festival was memorable – films were inspiring, parties were great, and I met a lot of talented filmmakers. The fest staff know how to make it all work perfectly, too. The right balance of film and fun. I pitched “9 Pieces of Peace” at the pitch session on Thursday. It went well and I enjoyed seeing pitches from other filmmakers. Great learning experience. While there, I also started pre-production work for the next week of shooting in early May. I can’t wait to go back!eace”

Last week, I received an amazing phone call telling me that I’d been granted $10,000 from the Prop Foundation in Missoula, Montana! I was floored. This donation will make the second week of shooting for “9 Pieces of Peace” possible. I’ve been hoping to shoot in May, the 10th anniversary of when the Missoula Peace Sign came down. But I didn’t know how I was going to pay for it. Now I know!! Special thanks to Father Hogan, the angel who made this possible. Last November, I was interviewing him for the film. After the interview, he offered to pass info onto “some people he knows who care deeply about both art and peace.” Then the call came last week. I am deeply indebted to him, as well as all the donors who have helped make this film possible.
